Tourism sees employment boom

Employment in the UK’s tourism industry as a whole has grown at almost double the rate of other sectors, according to figures from the Office of National Statistics.  
The data showed that the tourism industry experienced cumulative growth in employment of 5.4% between 2009 and 2013, compared to the non-tourism industry, which grew by 2.8%.  

This comes at a time when the hospitality industry has announced that it has 300,000 jobs that need to be filled by 2020.

The ONS data also revealed that the fastest growth in the tourism industry was within the areas of food and drink, which grew by 8.8% – representing an increase of 99,900 workers in those areas. Accommodation services have also grown by 7.1% over the same period, boasting an employment increase of 23,900.

Temporary employment in tourism has grown by 16.6% and is primarily driven by the food and drink sector, and an overall increase in temp workers. - See more at:
