Number of UK job vacancies halved

The number of advertised job vacancies has dropped by more than 50% since the coronavirus lockdown started. The closure of employment-heavy sectors such as hospitality and catering has led to an 82% drop in vacancies in the sector in the past few weeks, and a 57% drop in retail vacancies, said jobs site Adzuna. Vacancies in manufacturing companies, property, sales administration and computing have also slumped, said the report. The UK is worst-hit when it comes to job vacancy reductions worldwide, suffering steeper reductions than in countries including the United States and Australia, said Adzuna.
