Royal Mail and Debenhams reveal Christmas recruitment drives

Royal Mail and Debenhams are the latest employers to reveal details of their annual recruitment drives ahead of Christmas.
Royal Mail revealed in a statement yesterday it is to create 19,000 seasonal jobs from mid-November through until early January 2016.
The recruitment drive will see the company employ around 14,000 seasonal workers across its core network in England, 1,340 in Scotland, 560 in Wales and 550 in Northern Ireland.
Included in the jobs total, Royal Mail Group’s express parcels business, Parcelforce Worldwide, is also recruiting around 2,600 extra people, including drivers.
A Royal Mail spokesperson told Recruiter the firm plans to employ the same number of seasonal workers as last year and is keeping in touch with last year’s workers who have been notified in advance of this year’s recruitment drive.
The spokesperson added the roles are to be advertised on some of the service’s vans and in cinemas. A dedicated careers site has also been created for applicants.
Meanwhile, Debenhams is looking to create 8,000 temporary roles, the same number as last year, during the Christmas period – most of which will be customer-facing roles, a spokesperson for the department store told Recruiter.
The spokesperson added the firm employs 22,000 retail employees across its 177 stores in the UK and the Republic of Ireland, including staff at four new stores UK stores that will be open in time for the festive period.
It also has its own careers site.
Earlier this week Argos announced it is to create 9,000 temporary roles this Christmas.
